An Interview with Bradly Nadeau

Long nights, golfing and chocolate milk

By Nick Bass

While about to begin his first professional season, Bradly Nadeau is cool, calm and collected. On Friday, I got an opportunity to speak with Nadeau about the upcoming season and some other fun things that he enjoys. For context, N is going to stand for Nick and B is going to stand for Bradly.

N: What area of your game would you say you have worked on hardest this summer?
B: Yeah I think, honestly, for my game was off the ice more for my skating. Getting stronger and stronger on your skates which is a big part of the game but I’d say that’s the part that I’d put the main focus on during the off-season.

N: One of the highly touted aspects of your game is your shot, how did you develop the level of power and accuracy that you currently have?
B: A lot of reps growing. I had a outdoor rink growing up so going out there, shooting some pucks and the more reps you do, obviously you have to make the reps count and that’s how you get to the point you want to be.

N: So, if I ask your dad, would he say you kept him up a lot at night?
B: Yeah, but I was lucky enough to have an outdoor rink a little distance away from the house so he wouldn’t hear the pucks. But he was always watching.

N: Has anyone from the NHL team pulled you aside and given you any advice?
B: They want to make sure I work hard and give your all when you come to camp and hopefully battle for a spot, but the only advice they can give is to give all you got and see if you can battle your way to the lineup.

N: What are your expectations for your first year of pro hockey?
B: Obvious to learn a lot, going from college to pro it’s going to be an adaption period just to kind of get used to being pro and making sure to work hard wherever you are at and just learn, learn from other players.

N: In an interview that Jackson Blake did, he mentioned that he and you played a lot of golf. So, what would be your dream course to play at?
B: Honestly, the only one that comes to mind is Pinehurst Number 2 just because it’s close to here. I don’t watch much golf but it’s one of the tournaments that I watched this past year and it was on that course.

N: Favorite sport outside of hockey?
B: Got a few. Maybe golf, pickleball and tennis.

N: Who was your favorite NHL player growing up?
B: Sidney Crosby. I was from the Maritimes, he was from Nova Scotia so it’s not the same province but hell of a player. I watched him growing up and still watch him now and think that you can learn a lot from his game.

N: What is your favorite musical artist or genre?
B: I’ll go with genre here, just country.

N: So Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, all those guys?
B: Yeah

N: Alright so, last one. You are on a long road trip, what is your go to gas station order?
B: Definitely chocolate milk. Love to mix it up in there but love having chocolate milk. Maybe some fruits or something, nothing crazy just keeping it simple but as long as I have my chocolate milk. Maybe water too.
